The DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance is a funding organization that aims to support biomedical research in India. It was established in 2008 as a collaboration between the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, and the Wellcome Trust, UK.

The India Alliance provides funding for a range of research activities, including basic science research, clinical research, public health research, and the development of research infrastructure. It also offers various fellowship and training programs for researchers at different stages of their careers.

The India Alliance has funded several research projects across different fields, including infectious diseases, genetics, neuroscience, and cancer research. It aims to build a community of researchers in India who can contribute to the advancement of science and improve the health outcomes of people in the country.

The India Alliance also promotes open science practices and encourages researchers to share their data and research findings with the wider scientific community. It believes that collaborative and open approaches to research can accelerate scientific progress and lead to better health outcomes for people in India and beyond.

Team Science Grants will fund team of researchers who bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources to address an important health challenge for India. These grants will also fund high-risk, high-reward research work.

Applicants must demonstrate their complementarity, the added value that this collaboration would bring and lead to advances that would otherwise not be possible with individual Principal Investigators (PIs) working alone. The project should be multi-institutional and inter-disciplinary in its approach, with a suitable research management plan and structure.
