Ph.D. admission notification for the academic year 2025–26, issued by Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD):

Notification
Applications are invited in the prescribed format from eligible candidates for Ph.D. admissions for the academic year 2025–26.

Ph.D. Study Modes:

  • The candidate can register for the Ph.D. course as either full-time or part-time.
  • A full-time Ph.D. scholar must pursue regular study in the department, maintaining required attendance, until submission of the thesis.
  • In-service or employed candidates can pursue Ph.D. on a part-time basis.
  • Only permanent, full-time employees of institutions/organizations can undertake part-time Ph.D. research, upon submission of the following documents:
    1. No-objection certificate from the head of the institution.
    2. Service certificate from the employer.
    3. An undertaking in the prescribed format at the time of registration after selection.

Application Procedure:

  • The applicant must submit the filled application form in the prescribed format, along with required documents, to the respective departmental head on or before 14.08.2025.

Eligibility Rules:

  1. Eligibility for Admission:
    • Minimum 55% in Master’s Degree from a recognized university (50% for SC/ST/Category-I and PwD candidates)1.
    • Foreign students sponsored by diplomatic agencies and other sponsored candidates are also eligible.
    • Those appointed prior to March 31, 1992, as regular teachers/librarians/physical instructors in colleges/universities must have at least 50% marks in their Master’s (45% for reserved categories).
    • If the Master’s results are in grades or cumulative credits, they must be converted to percentage for eligibility as above.
  2. Entrance Test:
    • All candidates with the required percentage in Master’s can appear for the entrance test.
    • Exempted from Entrance Test: (a) Foreign students sponsored by government, (b) candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR JRF/NET/SLET (Karnataka)/GATE/GRE/M.Phil (through entrance test)1.
    • Entrance Test Details:
      • Max marks: 100.
      • Format: Objective-type (MCQs).
      • Syllabus: Research methodology and core subject at post-graduate level.
      • Number of questions: 100 (50 from research methodology, 50 from the subject).
      • Duration: 120 minutes.
      • Venue: Exam section and Dr. R.C. Hiremath Kannada Study Chair, KUD, Dharwad.
  3. Preparation of Eligibility List:
    • Exempted candidates will be ranked based on their Master’s marks.
    • For others, eligible list is prepared using 50% weightage for Master’s marks and 50% for entrance test score. Minimum qualifying marks in entrance test: 50% (45% for reserved categories and PwD)1.
    • Candidates must attend the interview conducted by the respective post-graduate departments.
    • Selected candidate lists will be published on departmental notice boards, and candidates must pay the required fees within 7 working days.
  4. Coursework:
    • Both full-time and part-time Ph.D. scholars must complete 16 weeks (one semester) of coursework in their department within one year of provisional registration.
    • Coursework includes four papers: (1) Research Methodology, (2) Subject/Core Area, (3) Research Field, (4) Ethics in Research & Publication1.
    • Paper 1 & 2 are common for all disciplines; Paper 4 is compulsory for all disciplines. Each of the first three carries 100 marks, and Paper 4 is for 50 marks with an additional 50 marks for oral examination.

  1. Instructions for Application & Fee Payment:
    • Application form can be downloaded from www.kud.ac.in. Submit filled application with supporting documents and online payment receipt to the respective head of post-graduate department.
    • Application Fee: ₹2420 (₹1210 for SC/ST/categories), ₹4840 for foreign students.
    • Fees should be paid online via SBI Collect as per university instructions.
    • Paid fees are non-refundable.
    • Candidates from other universities must submit required eligibility documents and pay prescribed fees at the time of admission.
  2. Caste Certificate & Fee Concession:
    • SC/ST/OBC students must submit caste certificate from the relevant authority and an income certificate not older than 5 years.

Incomplete applications or those lacking documents will be rejected.
