TEN DAYS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY COURSE FOR M.Phil./Ph.D./PDF RESEARCH SCHOLARS IN SOCIAL SCIENCES sponsored by ICSSR from 27th August to 06th September 2024

OBJECTIVES The overall aim of the proposed course would be to hone the research skills of young, aspiring students to undertake high quality research and publications. The specific objectives of the course are

• To equip scholars with research methodology essentials for pursuing research degrees (Doctor of Philosophy, Masters in Philosophy) in Social Sciences.
• To enable the participants, define research problem, developing an approach to research problem and selection of suitable research design.
• To impart capabilities for formulation and testing of hypothesis based on the nature of research.
• To become familiar with field work and collection of quantitative data.
• To comprehend appropriateness of statistical software packages for analyzing research data.
• To learn statistical techniques and interpretation of statistical output.
• To become familiar with ethical aspects of social and behavioral research and plagiarism software.
• To enable researchers in writing various research reports, thesis, dissertation, research paper, articles.
• To provide a comprehensive over view of qualitative research framework and nuances of designing studies using qualitative methods.
• To provide hands-on training on paper writing exercise

  ELIGIBILITY OF THE PARTICIPANTS The number of seats for the course is restricted to 30 from any branch of Social Science disciplines. The Scholars who are registered for their M.Phil./Ph.D./PDF are eligible to apply for this course. The Department of History and Tourism, Bharathiar University, in collaboration with the ICSSR, New Delhi is organizing a Ten-Days Training Course on Research Methodology for M.Phil./Ph.D./PDF Scholars in Social Sciences from 27th August to 06th September 2024. This course will open vistas of knowledge on the methodological basis of research and strategies to cope with future challenges. The mission of the course is to impart research skills to budding research scholars (M.Phil./Ph.D/PDF scholars) and enhance the quality of research. This course will contribute to the effective use of emerging technologies and establish a firm foundation for the overall development of high quality research. The training course will predominantly follow the Research Methodology syllabus designed by the ICSSR, New Delhi.   HOWTO APPLY Candidates are required to send the registration form duly filled in and forwarded by the Research Supervisor and the Head of the Department with following enclosures by post as well as by e-mail to history@buc.edu.in

• Brief CV of the applicant
• Attested copy of PhD registration
• A brief summary of the research work of the participant highlighting the background objectives and progress (Maximum 1500 words)
• A brief write-up about the anticipated benefits from participation in the course (Maximum 500 words)

FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION Food and accommodation for all participants will be provided by the Organisers. Accommodation will be provided on sharing basis at the University Guest House to the outstation participants only.   TRAVEL ALLOWANCE: Travel allowance by shortest distance will be reimbursed to the outstation participants (bus or train sleeper class) as per ICSSR guidelines. The participants should submit original tickets to claim TA. No local conveyance would be reimbursed.   CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION The participants will be provided Certificates on successful completion of the course. It is mandatory for all participants to attend all the classes/sessions.   ESSENTIAL CONDITIONS Candidates having knowledge of basic Statistics, Microsoft Excel and SPSS will be preferred. Further, it is desirable for all the selected participants to bring their own laptop for the hands-on practice sessions. Selected participants are asked to develop a full length research paper and present it at the Paper Clinic sessions.   SELECTION PROCEDURE Candidate will be selected on the basis of

• Strength of their research proposal (1500 words)
• Stage of research (pre- Data collection / field work phase)
• First time applicants for Research Methodology Course The organizer deserves the right for scrutiny and selection of the candidates based on the above mentioned criteria.
