12 Day’s Capacity Building Programmes (CBP) on Research Methodology and Academic Writing for faculty in Social Sciences

About Capacity Building Programmes (CBP)
The ICSSR Training and Capacity Building Programmes are extending financial support for organizing workshop on research methodology and capacity building programme to cater the needs of the social science faculties. These days Social science research is acting as a device for predicting social behavior, its planning and control. Social science research has assumed great significance as it contributes to societal development
and ultimately to the nation. Society is a diverse set of individuals and is highly interlinked, which has reshaped the research in social sciences. Over the years, one can identify a transition in the Indian higher education from a narrow disciplinary focus towards multidisciplinary engagements. A formal recognition of this is provided by the NEP 2020.

Another challenge in social science research is quality writing (academic writing). Various universities & research agencies are conducting research and producing their findings with an aim to address social problems along with its multifaceted relevance. However, the atrocities of the university and research organizations are that they are not able to produce effective academic writing. According to many academicians, university
and research organizations in India do not have sufficient infrastructure to produce quality researchers. Through ages it is seen that the skill of quality writing has been learnt by academician/researchers own their own. If early career teachers & researchers get enough exposure, training and support, academicians from India, for sure, will be the best in academic writing for many years to come.

The biggest strength of academic writers is that they can improve through practice & training. The process of practice & training often involves lots of guidance & efforts. The academic writer needs time to (a) search for appropriate style, academic & logical consistency, clarity pertaining to each type of writing and publication avenue, acknowledging the contributions & information made by other academicians (b) understand them (c) practice these skills over the years. Now there is a need to bring together different disciplinary experts to respond to societal problems and promote their knowledge.

ICSSR Sponsored Capacity Building Programme for Young Social Science Faculty on Outcome-Based Education System Under New Education Policy-2020

ICSSR Sponsored Capacity Building Programme for Young Social Science Faculty on Outcome-Based Education System Under New Education Policy-2020 hosted by INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC ENTERPRISE

Introduction

The National Education Policy of India 2020 (NEP 2020), approved by the Union Cabinet of India on 29 July 2020, outlines the vision of the new education system of India. It replaces the previous National Policy on Education, 1986. The vision of the policy is to build an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India by providing high-quality education to all, thereby making India a global knowledge superpower. The policy aims to transform India’s education system by 2030.

With NEP 2020, there has been a marked paradigm shift from the knowledge-based approach to the skill-based approach in the Indian Higher Education Sector in a transformative move to reskill our youth and build future competencies.

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is a student-centric teaching and learning methodology in which the course delivery and assessment are planned to achieve stated objectives and outcomes. It focuses on measuring student performance i.e., outcomes at different levels. The key to success in outcome-based education is clarity, for both teachers and students to understand what’s expected of them. As our colleges and universities slowly transition to this new system to align with NEP goals, they must find intelligent and efficient ways of integrating it and benefiting student employability.

The program covers a gamut of themes with a focus on Outcome-Based Education and the faculty members are enabled with modern concepts, tools, and methodologies of teaching and can gain a deep understanding of learning taxonomies like Bloom’s and learn to apply them effectively in the teaching practice. The program aims to impart practical skills and guidance to improve the quality of teaching, curriculum development, and assessments, achieve high-quality learning outcomes and the principles of quality assurance in education, including teachers-students communication, curriculum design, assessments, and more.

Objectives

  • To make faculty aware of the scope and challenges of the New Education Policy 2020
  • To augment the understanding of Faculty members about Outcome Based Education, Teaching, and Learning process under the New Education Policy 2020
  • To enhance the understanding and usage of Bloom’s taxonomy with the formulation of the teaching objectives and learning outcomes.
  • To capacitate participants in Assessments, Evaluations and Development tools and techniques.
