About Speakers
Nilesh Gawde, TISS, Mumbai
He is MD, PhD and is currently serving as an assistant professor at TISS. His interest areas include HIV, tuberculosis, migration, non-communicable diseases, and information systems. He has been a member of ethics committees in The Humsafar Trust (IRB), TISS IRB, and currently in Alliance India IRB. He completed numerous international and national funding
projects as PI and Co-PI for many research, filed research and evaluation studies funded by the state government, ICMR-funded, and GFATM. He carried out the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (India)-2 in collaboration and was the project director for Saksham Pramaan for the TGF (PR-NACO) 2021-23 and has published many articles and reports.

Manas Ranjan Pradhan, IIPS, Mumbai
He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Population Studies from IIPS, Mumbai, and became a faculty member there. His areas of interest include fertility and family planning, gender issues, reproductive and child health, public health, and qualitative research. He has published 86 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet. He has been involved in several international and national-level research projects, including NFHS-round 4. He has participated
in and presented research papers at 54 international and national conferences and has been awarded both national and international fellowships. He is an editorial board member of ‘Business Perspectives and Research -A Sage Journal; and is an Associate Editor for the journal ‘Reproductive Health’ published by BMC- Springer Nature.

Dr. Vijayaprasad Gopichandran
Independent Public Health Consultant, Chennai
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Madras Medical College, completed his post-graduation in community medicine at Christian Medical College, Vellore, and served as an Inspire-fellow for his PhD in Public Health at SRM. From 2016 to 2024, he was an assistant professor of community medicine at ESI Hospital and Medical College Chennai. Currently he
is an independent public health consultant with extensive experience in bioethics research and training.

Dr. Venkatesan Chakrapani, MD, PhD, (C-SHaRP), Chennai
Dr. Venkatesan Chakrapani, MD, PhD, is the Chairperson of the Centre for Sexuality and Health Research and Policy (C-SHaRP), Chennai, and Adjunct Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore. For nearly two decades, his focus has been on applied and policy-oriented health research among sexual and gender minorities, with studies documenting, explaining, and addressing health inequalities among them. He has published 80+ peer-reviewed research articles, 6 book chapters, and 70+ technical reports. He is a trainer in advanced quantitative (e.g., SEM, mediation, and moderation) and qualitative data analyses, and manuscript writing. He has received several awards and fellowships, including the NIH Fogarty fellowship from Yale University and the DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance Senior Fellowship.

Dr. Kalyani Talvelkar, CSW, NN, Mumbai
Kalyani Talvelkar has a doctorate in social work from the School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences. She was a faculty member in TISS at the Centre for Disability Studies and Action, School of Social Work, and is currently working as an assistant professor in the College of Social Work (Autonomous), Nirmala Niketan, in 2013. She has been actively conducting sessions on disability studies and research methodology in various academic institutions and organisations to build their research capacity. She has published many articles and book chapters and her areas of interest and expertise are research, disability studies, mental health, and child rights.

Ms Anju Mathew, Thanal
She is a public policy researcher and is currently working with Thanal. She previously worked at IIM and MoRD in Kozhikode, Centre for Socio-Economics and Environmental Studies (CSES), Kochi. She has a master’s in public policy and governance from Azim Premji in Bengloare. She has published the Research Study Report on Gender Friendlyness, as well as research articles.

Dr. Geetha Veliah, SPH, SRM IST
She is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health, SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Over her 14-year tenure, she has gained unique opportunities in innovative areas of Public Health. As a Health Promotion graduate from Western Illinois University, she brings valuable perspectives to Public Health discourse. Her interests encompass Adolescent Health, Mental Health, Nutrition, Health Communication, and Behavioral Health, among others. She has led multiple projects with both the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Government of India. Additionally, she serves as a Trustee with Parivarthan for Parkinson’s, a support group for people living with Parkinson’s.

Dr. Bharathi Palanisamy, SPH, SRM IST.
Dr. Bharathi P. is doctorate and currently working as an Associate Professor at SRM IST’s School of Public Health. She has 12 years of research experience and more than 5 years of teaching experience, and she has provided consultancy support to various national and international organizations, such as UNICEF, JSI India, and Development Solutions, in the area of WASH and qualitative data collection and analysis. Her areas of expertise include qualitative research, tribal, maternal, child health, and water and sanitation. She possesses significant expertise in organizing, executing, and overseeing extensive surveys like NFHS and GIS-based household consumer surveys.

Dr. Suman Kanougiya, SPH, SRM IST.
Has a PhD, qualified UGC-NET-JRF and currently working as an associate professor in SPH, SRM IST. She has been PI and co-PI for many funded research, impact assessment studies, and programmatic evaluations. She previously managed the Pan-India level field research funded by the TGF (PR-NACO) program while working at Saksham Pramaan, TISS, and managed a randomized control trial as a senior researcher funded by UCL-WELLCOME Trust while working in SNEHA Mumbai. She has served as a Scientist-B at ICMR-Mumbai and Senior Researcher at IIFM, MP. She has published book chapters, original and analytical research articles. She provides training on statistical data analysis using SPSS and STATA and qualitative research. Her area of interest includes mental health and wellbeing, impact evaluation using mixed methods, gender and health, gender-based violence, disability, HIV, and survey research.
